ND Prairie Dog Funding slowed to a trickle

By Doug Barrett Feb 16, 2021 | 8:28 AM

One of the big issues in the 2019 Legislative session was the creation of the “Prairie Dog” infrastructure fund. It added more “buckets” for oil tax revenues that would go to cities…counties…townships and airports. But because of the drop in oil prices, those buckets didn’t fill as quickly as anticipated.
Republican Representative Mike Nathe was one of the authors of the “Prairie Dog” legislation.  “Prairie Dog is not dead.  We passed it last session for $250 million dollars and if we do nothing that will be the same for the next biennium.”
Grand Forks able to secure $2.5 million dollars in so-called Prairie Dog funding in 2020. The city plans to utilize the Monday to help fund 2021 road projects.
