(AP) – A North Dakota judge on Thursday ordered a state lawmaker to complete 250 hours of community service with the homeless and pay a $2,500 fine after a jury convicted him of a misdemeanor in connection with a controversial state-leased building he has an ownership in.
Republican Rep. Jason Dockter also must pay $325 in court fees, undergo fingerprinting and serve nearly a year of unsupervised probation.
The conviction will be taken off his record if he doesn’t violate probation.
State District Judge Bobbi Weiler chastised Dockter for declining to comment at sentencing, saying she was disappointed he didn’t apologize to the citizens of North Dakota.
Dockter has not said whether he will appeal or resign.
