The U. S. Postal Service facility in Grand Forks is slated to receive a $1.5 million dollar investment – but it comes at a cost.
The money would target modernization of a Local Processing Center – as well as to address deferred maintenance.
However the plan also calls for moving original mail and package processing from Grand Forks to Fargo. The report estimates an annual savings of between $330 thousand to $440 thousand dollars.
The USPS says any reduction in employees will be made in accordance with respective collective bargaining agreements. The Postal Service says the strategy may also result in increased plant activity and the need for additional support in the future.
A timeline for the change was not released.
