By Doug Barrett Mar 11, 2024 | 7:56 AM

A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries when his patrol car was hit head-on by a wrong way driver on Highway 83 in Bismarck early Sunday morning.

Authorities say the trooper was parked in the median when he observed the car traveling south in the north bound lane. As the car got closer to the patrol vehicle – with emergency lights activated – the driver drifted towards the median and then swerved back into the roadway resulting in the crash.

The suspect driver was identified as Steven Kessel of Bismarck. He was charged with DUI…reckless endangerment…and driving with a suspended license.

Kessel and a passenger were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. The trooper was not transported.
