Hoeven: UND air traffic control graduates should immediately enter the workforce

(KNOX) –

U.S. Senator John Hoeven would like the University of North Dakota to be the first in the nation where air traffic control graduates move directly into the workforce.
Hoeven and leaders from the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences announced Friday their intention to partner with the Federal Aviation Administration to address the air traffic controller shortage.
Specifically, Hoeven would like graduates to directly enter the workforce rather than attending the FAA’s ATC Academy in Oklahoma:
Under the enhanced program, graduates will immediately be eligible for hire and begin localized training at an air traffic facility.

Graduates will still be required to pass the Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA) exam and meet medical and security requirements.
