GFFD investigating downtown fire

A downtown apartment fire kept the Grand Forks Department busy his morning (Saturday).

Fire crews were called out just after 11:00 a.m. to the apartments above Sledsters Food & Brew located at 21 S. 4th Street.

As teams entered the structure they found flames in one of the apartments on the third floor. The apartment involved along with the adjacent hallway suffered significant fire damage with smoke damage spreading throughout the upper floors.

Two tenants of the building are displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Sledsters Food & Brew was also impacted and will remain closed through the weekend.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with five engines, one truck and one command vehicle with seventeen personnel. There were no injuries to the public or fire service personnel and the cause of the fire remains under investigation
