A Marshall County judge today (Fri) received a plea agreement in the case of a Warren (MN) man charged in the 2022 murder of his wife.
Under the deal submitted to Judge Corey Harbott… 32-year-old Anders Odegaard will plead guilty to “second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony.” In exchange, the state will dismiss a separate count of second-degree murder… and Odegaard will get a sentence of 220 months.
Odegaard’s attorney Eric Gudmundson said that’s a departure from the sentence of 150 months called for under state guidelines. Gudmundson said the departure is based on the crime being committed in the presence of a child.
Gudmundson also said the agreement recognizes a desire by both parties to avoid the children of the victim and the defendant having to testify in the case.
In August 2022, deputies found 31-year-old Carissa Odegaard unresponsive in her Warren home with severe head trauma after a domestic argument. Authorities said two of the couple’s children saw the attack, but fled and were not harmed.
Harbott scheduled sentencing for Jan. 29th.
