The future of health care in Devils Lake was back on the table Monday.
U.S. Senator John Hoeven brought the President and CEO of CommonSpirit Health’s Midwest Region – Tim Bricker – to D-L to discuss the issue of improved access. CommonSpirit owns CHI St Alexus Health.
Hoeven says it’s essential that the health care workforce in Devils Lake have the resources, tools and facilities they need to adequately serve this region. According to Hoeven the Devils Lake Hospital hasn’t received a major investment since 1972, and it is affecting local residents’ ability to access quality health care.
In 2022 the Devils Lake Commission signed a Letter of Intent designed to help spur development of a new hospital project in the city. The collaborative effort involves Altru Health…Essentia…Spirit Lake Nation…and the city.
Hoeven says Bricker will return to Devils Lake in the coming weeks for a community meeting so residents can offer feedback.
