A woman was recently detained by federal authorities at the Twin Cities airport for trying to bring giraffe feces into the U-S.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, on Sept. 29th, the woman was returning from Kenya…and chosen for inspection by C-B-P agriculture specialists.

The woman declared giraffe feces, saying she had obtained them in Kenya… and planned to make a necklace.

She also stated that she had previously used moose feces at her home in Iowa.

Ag Specialists seized the box, and the excrement was destroyed… according to USDA destruction protocol.

An official said, “If this person had entered the U.S. and had not declared these items, there is high possibility a person could have contracted a disease from this jewelry and developed serious health issues.”

All ruminant animal feces require a Veterinary Services Permit for entry into the United States.  Kenya is affected with African Swine Fever, Classical Swine Fever, Newcastle disease, Foot and Mouth disease, and Swine Vesicular Disease.
