The northern half of North Dakota is hoping the forecast for rain this weekend brings some much needed relief.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor suggests over 36% of the state is in some form of drought. A portion of seven counties in the north-central part of the state are in the extreme drought category.
Grand Forks County is split between moderate and severe drought status. The NWS says precipitation through August is down nearly 3.5 inches – making it the 20th driest year to date.
Minnesota isn’t much better with nearly every corner of the state in some form of drought.
