Today’s (Tue’s) sentencing hearing for a Warren (MN) man charged in his wife’s murder has been delayed because the victim’s family was not notified of a plea agreement.
Thirty-two-year-old Anders Odegaard initially pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the August 2022 beating death of Carissa Odegaard, who was 31.
Last month, Anders Odegaard submitted an Alford plea in Marshall County District Court, pleading guilty to second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony. But Judge Corey Harbott today (Tue) rejected the plea, because Carissa’s family was not informed of the agreement.
Meanwhile, at the prosecution’s request, Anders Odegaard will undergo an evaluation for competency to proceed. Attorney Don Aandal, representing the state, said he had concerns about Anders Odegaard’s mental state.
Aandal said, a review hearing will be held Sept. 25, if the evaluation is completed by then.
