ND school immunization rates

By Doug Barrett Aug 15, 2023 | 8:44 AM

North Dakota school immunization rates have been slowly dropping in recent years. Health officials say with another school year just around the corner it’s important for parents to plan ahead to schedule those shots.

During the 2022-23 school year kindergarten immunization rates topped 91%. Personal belief exemption rates came in at 3.16% and religious exemptions are at 1.65%. Health officials say low immunization rates can lead to vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks in schools, unnecessary illnesses and missed days of learning.

HHS says rates are down in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic – but can also be attributed to an increase in non-medical exemptions and non-compliance.
