Nearly 62,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have already been administered throughout North Dakota. At last check 5,721 of those shots have gone into the arms of Grand Forks County residents. Public health Director Debbie Swanson says that might seem low compared to some other counties but there is a reason for the gap. “If it appears Grand Forks County is below some of the metro areas in terms of doses it’s largely related to our demographics and occupations. Some of the communities have more people in long term care and more health care workers.”
Swanson says she would expect the numbers to climb as additional vaccine becomes available. By comparison Cass County has vaccinated 17,147 people.

On a related note Grand Forks County Administrator Tom Ford says he has received far more positive comments than negative over continuation of the local mask mandate. Ford says the decision to implement the order followed a Friday meeting between county and city leaders. He says the requirement will likely remain in effect until there is a greater rollout of the vaccine.
