Ground broken for 8th Fargo fire station

Ground was broken today (Tue) for the eighth fire station in the city of Fargo.

The $5.3 million structure will be located on the city’s south end.

Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen said the 10,832-square-foot facility will mean faster responses to fires in that area, which has had about 1,900 calls for service in the last five years.

The response time that we measure (in this planning zone) is at the 90th percentile,” Dirsken said. “And we respond to 90 percent of all those calls in 10:46. That’s not acceptable by our standards. Our goal is to respond to every emergency in every planning zone in 6:20 or less, 90 percent of the time. This station will help us reach that goal”

Officials expect the new station to open next year, with a staff of 15 firefighters.
