The Turtle Mountain band is getting some financial help to clean up the site of the former San Haven Hospital. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has doled out a one-million dollar grant to help revitalize 14 acres where the complex sits. The money comes from the so-called Brownfields Program. The former hospital is contaminated with asbestos…lead…and polychlorinated chemicals which affect building materials…soil…and water. San Haven operated as a tuberculosis sanitarium and state hospital from 1909 through 1987.
