Valley Middle School hosts referendum Q & A

By Doug Barrett Mar 23, 2023 | 8:46 AM

The 30 or so people who attended a community forum last night (Wednesday) to talk about the May 16th school referendum election in Grand Forks got a first glimpse at a conceptual view of what a new Valley Middle School might look like.

School leaders answered questions about the project ranging from the size of the 129,000 square foot building to the type of construction…space…design…and cost to taxpayers.

A major component of the $79 million dollar “ask” of voters is the new Valley Middle School project. In addition to the $55 million dollar construction build is another $6 million for a central kitchen – and $18 million for safety and security improvements throughout the district.

It’s estimated the $79 million dollar package would cost the owner of a $100,000 dollar home around $96.93 cents.

Similar meetings will be held April 13th at Red River High School – and May 11th at Central High School.
