Attorneys General from eight states – including North Dakota’s Drew Wrigley — have announced judgments shutting down a large Texas-based robocall operation.
Wrigley says the defendants, John Spiller the Second and Jakob Mears, blasted billions of illegal robocalls to people across the U-S.
In 2019 and 2020 alone, the defendants bombarded North Dakotans with millions of robocalls about a variety of scams involving extended car warranties and health care services, among others. They also called people on the state’s “Do Not Call” list.
Spiller and Mears have been ordered to pay a total of $244.65 million… but the payments will be largely suspended in favor of the permanent operational bans, and because of their inability to pay.
