Public to know soon what new Valley Middle School would look like

The public won’t have to wait long to see what a new Valley Middle School would look like.

The Valley Middle School New Build Committee held its third and final meeting this week. A concept design was presented to committee members, who gave feedback on likes and dislikes.

Kyle Kvamme of ICON says even when it’s released, the design will still be a work in progress.

“We’re going to have a rendering to showing what the concept is going to look like, knowing that all the pieces inside the box still have to move around,“ Kvamme said. “We still have hundreds of staff meetings to see who is adjacent to who and what flows makes sense, but the general vision will be something that the public will be able to see very soon.”

Superintendent Terry Brenner says officials want to get the info out to voters as quickly as possible.

“I think what we’ll have for the public is more of an exterior rendering, how some spaces will be used internally, but it will still give them enough to know what they’re voting for or voting against,” Brenner said.

The School Board meets Monday to decide the size of the ask: $55 million for the school building plus $6 million for a central kitchen.

The board is also considering tacking on up to $18 million for public safety district-wide.

Voters go to the polls May 16 to decide the referendum question.
