Valley Middle School election set for May

By Doug Barrett Feb 14, 2023 | 8:49 AM

Grand Forks voters will head to the polls May 16th to decide the fate of a new Valley Middle School project.

The school board set the referendum date last night (Monday). Business Manager Brandon Baumbach says the original September date was moved to allow for further due diligence on all facility needs.

• Strong support among survey respondents
• The school year will still be in session and this date is not close to any school holiday
• This would be the first of possible community referenda in the community for the year
• Retirees generally leaving for the winter would be back in Grand Forks

At issue is a $55 million dollar school building and a $6 million dollar central kitchen.  The resolution and ballot language will come before the board at a future meeting.
