ND & MN gas pipeline update

By Doug Barrett Jan 11, 2023 | 1:05 PM

There could be a glitch in efforts to build a natural gas pipeline from western Minnesota to East Grand Forks (MN).

North Dakota Pipeline Authority Director Justin Kringstad says they just recently learned that an application submitted back in May contains incorrect information and is missing some substantial contracts.

Viking Gas Transmission – a subsidiary of ONEOK – wants to tap into a $10 million dollar grant set aside by the North Dakota Legislature to build the 14-mile pipeline.

Kringstad told a recent meeting of the House Energy and Natural Resource Committee that it’s a difficult situation.  “Without that segment being built under the river they would not have existing capacity to meet the needs of existing contracts…Fufeng and Epitome.  There really would be no other gas available for any type of residential growth…commercial growth…so those are very real concerns.”

Kringstad says the company likely needs to take the application back and rework it.

The cost of the project back in May was estimated at some $26 million dollars.
