NDHP Update: Victim identified as 19-year old Destinee Tuttle of Santee (Nebraska).
Original story:
A fatal pedestrian accident on I-29 south of Fargo this morning (Sunday) left a 19 year old woman dead.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a 20 year old male driver – and a 20 year old female passenger – were heading south when they observed the female victim standing in the left lane. The driver braked and steered left but struck the pedestrian. The vehicle entered the median and became stuck in the snow.
The NDHP says as a result of the impact the victim was thrown and came to rest across the right lane and outside shoulder. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger were not injured.
The accident occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. A four mile stretch of the south bound lanes of I-29 were closed for three hours. The incident remains under investigation.
