U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer says a pair of top secret briefings regarding the proposed Fufeng project in Grand Forks did nothing to change his mind about the corn milling plant.
Cramer – and U.S. Senator John Hoeven – have expressed security concerns over the company’s ties to China and its close proximity to the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Cramer says they both met with Treasury…DOD…Banking…and Intelligence officials following the recent CFIUS no jurisdiction ruling. “The emphatic point is that the determination of non-jurisdiction has nothing to do with the merits of the investment. In fact all the information they did take in from multiple sources cant be shared. There is nothing I learned in those two meetings that give me any more comfort in the Fufeng investment…it only enhances my opposition.”
Cramer says he can’t share any of the information gleamed during the briefings. “That doesn’t mean others can’t ask questions specifically of the agencies.”
Cramer called the non-ruling by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States a bit of a “cop out” and a “very narrow” opinion and interpretation of the law of jurisdiction.
Cramer made his comments on KNOX’s Critical Thought program with Noah Chelliah.
