A 76-year-old East Grand Forks man – accused of firing a bullet through a neighboring child’s bedroom window while shooting at a squirrel — made his first court appearance today (Thu).
Michael Powers was in Polk County District Court on two weapons-related charges – one felony and one misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Powers admitted to East Grand Forks police that he fired a rifle that hit a nearby home six times on Dec. 4th.
Police say Powers told them he had shot at squirrels at least six times over the past two years because he said he considered it “war” when they got into his bird feeder.
Police recovered two .22-caliber rounds from the siding of a neighbor’s home and one from a bedroom window ledge.
An omnibus hearing for Powers has been scheduled for Jan. 24th.
