Burgum to pardon Thanksgiving turkeys

By Doug Barrett Nov 18, 2022 | 8:55 AM

Governor Doug Burgum will be asked to use his executive powers later today (Friday) and approve pardons for a couple of turkeys during a meeting with representatives of the North Dakota Turkey Federation.

The group will bring two live birds to the governor and Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring at the capitol in a traditional Thanksgiving celebration. In addition to the pardoning ceremony the Turkey Federation will donate 15 frozen birds to the Heaven’s Helpers Soup Café and Abused Resource Center in Bismarck.

North Dakota has nine farms that produce around one-million turkeys annually.
