NCTC leader talks State of the College

By Doug Barrett Oct 21, 2022 | 5:35 AM

Despite a 45% decline in enrollment over the last ten years Northland Community and Technical College had a record year in scholarships – over $400,000 dollars.

That was one of the messages President Sandy Kiddoo delivered during a 2022 State of the College address on Thursday.

A recent study suggests half of high school students surveyed did not immediately pursue higher education. To counter the decline Kiddoo says the college has launched Northland Works. The program pairs students with employer partners in high-demand career fields, who will provide tuition assistance, allowing students to achieve the training necessary to obtain employment in their chosen field immediately after graduation.

Kiddoo says the Northland Foundation also created the Northland Cares fund for student emergency grants funded in part from a new Northland Coffee that will soon be available at Bully Brew locations and the NCTC store.

The NCTC leader also highlighted a new strategic plan unveiled this past year with four key areas: access…student success… partnerships…and advancing equity.
