Law enforcement in Grand Forks were not the only ones having to deal with a “swatting” call involving a school on Thursday. At least six North Dakota districts reported similar incidents.
The hoax call was made to P-SAP around 10:30 in the morning suggesting there was an active shooter at Red River High School. The building went into a lock down until authorities gave the all clear sign less than an hour later.
Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Catherine Gillach says unfortunately in this day and age all school systems practice lock down drills. “The response from the police department I think was extraordinary. It was not just police but all ensuing agencies. At that time we hand our operations over to them and their expertise.”
In addressing the large number of swatting calls North Dakota School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler called the events “unfortunate” and a reminder that we need to be vigilant about preparation to keep everyone safe.
