MN AG sues Fleet Farm over gun sales to straw buyers

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed suit against Fleet Farm for negligently selling firearms to straw purchasers.

Ellison says Fleet Farm repeatedly sold handguns to straw purchasers — people who illegally purchase guns for others who cannot legally purchase guns themselves, such as convicted felons.

According to Ellison, over a 16-month span, Fleet Farm sold at least 37 firearms to two straw purchasers.. often selling multiple guns either in single transactions or over short periods of time.  

 One gun was used in a 2021 shooting in a St. Paul bar that killed one woman and injured 14 other people.

The suit filed in Hennepin County alleges that Fleet Farm ignored red flags and warning signs that certain buyers were straw purchasers… and sold guns to them anyway, rather than refusing to make such sales.
