The Grand Forks council stopped short of trimming the list of alternatives for a proposed 42nd Street grade separation crossing last night (Monday).
There are currently five proposals on the table ranging in cost from $44.6 million dollars to $54.4 million. Each has its own set of impacts to the Ray Richards Golf Course and a nearby gas station.
Council President Dana Sande says he has a hard time picking plans without knowing whether the owner of the station is willing to sell the property – and at what cost.
Council member Ken Vien says not all impacts are equal and confusion for divers getting through an intersection redesign should carry some weight. “I’ve always been a little challenged where to take a right you take a left and you go down and take another right.”
City staff will try to make contact with the station owner prior to next Monday’s regular council meeting.

The Grand Forks council is ready to approve the purchase of 17 acres of land off Highway 81 to make way for a stormwater pond and wastewater lift station.
The land is part of the annexed property for the proposed Fufeng project. The pond will serve the corn milling plant and adjacent properties.
The pond will cover 11.42 acres. The city will utilize 5.57 acres for stockpiling clay and other infrastructure uses.
The purchase price is just over $282,000 dollars. Pond construction could start later this fall.
The council is expected to give final approval to the deal next week.
