The Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial received a financial shot in the arm Monday from the Grand Forks council.
The city will contribute an additional $32,000 dollars towards the project at Optimist Park to help offset a $60,000 funding gap.
Supporters have raised over $250,000 dollars to date – but bids came in at $360,000 earlier this year.
The memorial will honor the legacy of law enforcement from eight North Dakota counties…eight from Minnesota and Manitoba.
County Commissioner Bob Rost is a member of the steering committee. According to Rost a lot of the project features are in storage waiting to be placed on site – with one exception. “To delay some of this the center section was dropped on shipping and shattered. They have to go back to the quarry in Minnesota to get it – so the end of October or November and that gets a little late to put granite down.”
A final completion date is expected during the summer of 2023.
