Maddock woman charged after bringing raccoon into bar

By Pat Sweeney Sep 15, 2022 | 4:24 PM

A Maddock woman has been charged for bringing a raccoon into that city’s bar on Sept. 6.

Benson County Sheriff Ethan Rode says the raccoon was also seized from a home and put down.

He says 38-year-old Erin Christensen of Maddock was keeping the raccoon as a pet. She’s been charged with giving false information to law enforcement, tampering with evidence and illegally having a fur-bearing animal. She was released from jail after posting bail.

There were about 10 people in the bar when Christensen brought the raccoon in. Anyone who had contact with the animal has been urged to be checked for rabies.

The raccoon’s carcass will be tested at the state veterinary lab.
