GF still navigating Fufeng challenges

The City of Grand Forks continues to move forward with planning on the much debated Fufeng project.

The proposed corn milling plant is the subject of court challenges and a potential review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States over the company’s ties to China.

Among those supporting the CFIUS review are Senators John Hoeven… Kevin Cramer…and Governor Doug Burgum. Grand Forks and Fufeng have also agreed to the process.

City Administrator Todd Feland told the council this week that for now they are proceeding as planned.  “Fufeng should have information by the end of the month…so we will have an answer on that.  The district court case we would have an answer in the near term.  If it comes back with CFIUS and it will be a long review…even if something came back in September/October/November… we would come back to the council and say things have changed and we need to adapt.”

Also on the table is legislation by Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota that would blacklist China and several other countries from purchasing or acquiring U.S. land or businesses involved in agriculture.
