A North Dakota B-I-A officer has been honored with the Congressional Badge of Bravery.
Officer Dexter Davis received the award today (Tue) in Bismarck from North Dakota U-S Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer in recognition of exceptional acts of bravery while serving on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
In July 2019, Davis acted quickly when rain washed out a large section of Highway 1806 on the North and South Dakota border.
The rainfall swept several cars and a bus into a hole about 30 feet deep by 50 feet wide that was quickly filling with water.
Davis entered the water and used ropes to stabilize the bus and retrieve the bus driver, who was severely injured.
Davis and the driver were then pulled to safety by other emergency personnel.
