Storms blow through region

Strong winds and heavy rains prompted numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings throughout the region late Friday and early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service says peak winds of 80 mph were clocked near Pekin and Mallory.  There was a swath of trees ripped apart near Thompson.  As many as 2,800 Xcel Energy customers in Grand Forks lost power during the the storm.

Additional reports include tree damage in Northwood…Manvel…Larimore…Fisher…and Crookston.  A boat dock rolled over in the water south of Erskine.  Winds also caused a boat and lift to tip upside down.

The NWS says they measured 1.13 inches of rain in Grand Forks.  A wind gust of 61 mph was clocked at the Grand Forks Airport.

Strong storms are still possible this morning across southeastern North Dakota into central Minnesota.
