The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the trooper involved in a shootout with a hit-and-run suspect in Fargo on Tuesday.

Authorities say Miles Rhonemus has been with the NDHP since January 2020.

The exchange of gunfire with 28-year old Maichael Yousa occurred following two accidents and a report of shots fired from a south Fargo apartment balcony. Yousa was shot twice and treated at a hospital before being transported to jail.

The trooper has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation – which is standard procedure following an officer involved shooting.
Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind says all video and audio of the exchange has been turned over to the BCI.

Law enforcement recovered a semi-auto handgun at the scene.
