East Grand Forks officials are still searching for the best use of $860,000 dollars in so-called “subtarget” federal funding for road projects. The funding is only doled out every three or four years.
Complicating the selection process is that preferred projects – the Bygland / Rhinehart roundabout and 10th Street NE rebuild – have hit snags that could put them past the 2023 deadline to utilize the money. With that in mind city staff has compiled a potential list of replacement projects.
Council member Clarence Vetter expressed disappointment in ongoing delays with pursuing the roundabout.
Mayor Steve Gander says general maintenance projects are also important.
The MPO’s Stephanie Halford says the city needs to be proactive in deciding which projects to move forward with as time could become a roadblock.
No action was taken at last night’s work session.
