Future of GF baseball team is in doubt

The Grand Forks-based Red River Pilots baseball team is apparently in limbo.

According to a news release from the Expedition League, Pilots coach Matt Holem resigned his position via email…and dismissed the Pilots players.

League President Steve Wagner says the move was unauthorized and had not been discussed with the league.

Wagner says the league is working to rebuild the Pilots’ roster for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, the league has announced a revised schedule that does not include the Pilots.

Only three league teams are still playing. Those teams are based in Minot, Pierre (SD) and Bancroft, Iowa.

The Pilots’ season started on May 27. They played their home games at Kraft Field.

The Expedition League is a summer collegiate baseball league.
