Strong winds kept Grand Forks fire and Xcel Energy crews busy this afternoon. Brocken tree branches toppled a handful of power lines. The Xcel Energy outage page listed over 1,500 customers without power between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. There were no reports of injuries as a result of the downed lines.
The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for much of the Red River Valley. A gust of 53 mph was clocked at the Grand Forks Airport.
The wind was also blamed for grounding the Thunderbirds Air Show at the GFAFB. A statement from the base said they were forced to cancel for flight safety reasons due to high crosswinds.
Blowing dust also reducing visibilities in open country.
An Excessive Heat Warning is posted for Sunday as temps could hit the century mark.
