The 2022 swimming season is getting underway this week in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Elks pool opened on Monday and East Grand Forks will be good to go on Wednesday (1:00 p.m.).
Fans of Riverside will have to wait a little longer. The north side pool in Grand Forks was scheduled to open June 15th but flooding combined with painting and repairs will push that date out another week to ten days.
Staffing will be an issue again this year. With fewer lifeguards it could make it difficult to keep both Grand Forks pools open at the same time resulting in some modified schedules.
Park and Rec officials in East Grand Forks say they have enough lifeguards…for now…but are always looking for more.
The water is still not on at the University Splash Park. Work crews have been repairing a broken pipe to the water pad. The goal is to have it up and running by this weekend.
