With an emergency declaration in place the Grand Forks School Board agreed last night (Monday) to move ahead with addressing structural re-pairs at Schroeder Middle School.
Heavy rains and snow in April are being blamed for damaging roof truss-es over parts of the structure that date back to 1960. The bulk of the damage involves the Family Consumer Sciences lab…classroom… and conference room.
As part of the fix the board has agreed to a courtyard in-fill project at a cost of $3.4 million dollars. Building and Grounds Director Chris Arnold says it will set the building up for the future. Arnold says there is some good news on funding front. “I visited with insurance providers along with FEMA. The project to replace the roof likely will be a strong candidate to be funded by one or both potentially.

In other action the board selected ICON Architects to develop a new Val-ley Middle School project. Three firms responded to the district’s RFQ. The district is eyeing a September 27th election date for a $55 million dollar bond issue for construction.
