Falconer Township annexation impact discussed

By Doug Barrett May 10, 2022 | 8:49 AM

On a split 4-2 vote the Grand Forks council gave preliminary approval last night (Monday) to a cost share plan for landowners from Falconer Township who will soon be annexed into the city. Those costs include assessments for things like storm water infrastructure and flood protection.

The annexation is tied to the proposed Fufeng project on the north side of the city. Council President Dana Sande says since this is an economic development issue the city owes it to the residents of Falconer Township to keep them as whole as possible.

Council member Bret Weber says the corn milling plant is important for the future of the city.  “When I first ran for council I never imagined part of my role would be to defend the development of a large manufacturing plant.  Over the years I have come to understand the importance of economic development.”

A hearing on the annexation is scheduled for June 6th.
