GF School Board declares emergency

By Doug Barrett May 10, 2022 | 8:40 AM

The Grand Forks School Board last night declared an emergency to help expedite repairs to Schroeder Middle School.

Heavy rains and snow are being blamed for damaging roof trusses over parts of the structure that date back to 1960. According to a staff report the bulk of the damage involves the Family Consumer Sciences lab…classroom…and conference room.

Building and Grounds Director Chris Arnold says potential fixes include replacing the existing roof or filling in the courtyard to make it one cohesive building.  Arnold says building codes have changed greatly since 1960.

The district will work to fine-tune the scope of the project.  A preliminary estimate suggests the fix could cost $2.8 million dollars.
