GFSO looking at lease program for squads

The Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department is looking to lease – rather than own – a fleet of squad cars moving forward.  Sheriff Andy Schneider told county commission members this week (Tuesday) that it could be a significant cost savings move.  Schneider says the program has received positive reviews from various agencies he has been in contact with.  “This would increase safety…the substantial savings to county tax dollars with the current estimate at nearly $1 million over 10 years.”

Schneider says one way or the other the GFSO needs to replace some aging vehicles.  “We have multiple vehicles on patrol with over 100,000 miles.”

Schneider plans to bring a formal lease proposal with Enterprise Rent-a-Car to the county commission later this month.
