The Alerus Center in Grand Forks finished 2021 in the black. The events center building turned a profit in excess of $190 thousand dollars.
The building hosted 404 events last year with attendance topping the 200-thousand mark. The number included 19 ticketed events.
It’s estimated the big building had a $9.1 million dollar economic impact on the region. General Manager Anna Rosburg presented the figures to the city council last night (Monday). Rosburg says the impact number is based on a variety of metrics – including point of ticket sales. “For example our recent concert that we had 95% was out of county.”
Rosburg says the building is well positioned for the future. “Our event load is very strong….even ticket events look very strong. We are still seeing a little lag in the conference side of the business – we are seeing that industry wide.”

In other council news…..members approved an ordinance to help regulate beekeeping in town. Violators could be charged with a public nuisance. Although there is no specific penalty attached to a public nuisance complaint it could be considered a violation of city code. That carries a $1,500 fine and or 30 days in jail. The final vote was 6-1.
