As part of the shift from pandemic to an endemic phase of COVID-19 the North Dakota Health Department has ended its daily dashboard for reporting cases. Instead the department will compile a weekly report and look at trends over time.
Health Officer Dr. Nizar Wehbi says the change aligns with national reporting and falling cases…hospitalizations…and deaths. Wehbi says the decline in cases along with available vaccine and treatment brings us to a point where the virus is more manageable.
Director of Disease Control Kirby Kruger says the shift will also even out a regular pattern of having greater numbers of tests run during the first half of the week. “It’s still current enough for people to make decisions about what they want to do to protect themselves or others. The other part is we work with a lot of people who put in a lot of hours to make sure that data goes out…and is there a better use of resources.”
It was three weeks ago today (Friday) that Grand Forks slipped from the “high risk” category for COVID-19 into the “moderate” level. This week that ranking was dropped further to “low” risk.
