A 20-year old woman continues to recover from injuries after being shot by a Mahnomen County deputy on Sunday.

Authorities say Shequoya Basswood was a passenger in a vehicle that refused to stop for law enforcement.  The pursuit ended in Naytahwausch (MN) with deputies using a PIT maneuver.  After the vehicle stopped two of six occupants – including the driver – fled the scene on foot.

Investigators say that’s when Basswood produced a handgun – and was shot by Deputy Dakota Czerny.  The incident was captured on dash camera and the aftermath on body camera.

One of the two males who fled has been apprehended – but the other remains at large.  The Minnesota BCA is assisting in the investigation.
