By Pat Sweeney Feb 7, 2022 | 5:13 PM

Minnesota Republican State Senator John Jasinski of Faribault says he was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident last Friday.

Authorities say the accident also involved fellow Republican Sen. Mark Johnson of East Grand Forks.

According to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened shortly before 1:00 PM on Friday, six miles south of Motley (MN).

The Sheriff’s Office says Jasinski and Johnson were driving snowmobiles on a trail, with Jasinski traveling in front.

When the trail came to a 90-degree left turn, Jasinski lost control causing him to be thrown off the snowmobile. Johnson then struck the unoccupied snowmobile.

Johnson was not hurt, but Jasinski issued a statement saying he has three broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and fractured L5 vertebrae. He was flown to a Robbinsdale (MN) hospital. He says he expects to make a full recovery.

The accident happened at the Minnesota Rendezvous event.

MN Senate Republican Caucus:

Today Senator John Jasinski (R-Faribault) released the following statement with information regarding an accident with another snowmobile:

“On Friday, February 4 I was in an accident involving another snowmobile at the Minnesota Rendezvous event. I was flown in a North Memorial helicopter ambulance to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. The accident left me with three broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and fractured L5 vertebrae. Because of the great care I received both at the accident site and in the hospital, I am expected to make a full recovery. I want to thank everyone at North Memorial, their ambulance service, and the Robbinsdale Hospital for their amazing care and support.

“While the physical recovery may be long, I’m ready to participate with remote access for hearings and floor sessions and fully engage in this session. I also will be in regular communication with Senate staff and my Legislative Assistant to continue to provide the best constituent services to my district. I want my constituents to know they can continue to reach out for assistance, and I will do whatever I can to help.”
