The Thunderbirds will return to the Grand Forks Air Force Base in June.

The U-S Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team will perform at the Northern Thunder Air and Space Expo on June 18th.

It will be the first time since 2010 that the Grand Forks base has played host to the Thunderbirds.

That event is free and open to the public.

The Thunderbirds were scheduled to appear at the local base in 2020, but the event was cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions.

GFAFB release:

Grand Forks AFB welcomes back the U.S. Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, for the Northern Thunder Air & Space Expo, June 18, 2022.

This will be the first time since May 22, 2010 that Grand Forks AFB has opened its gates for an air show featuring the Thunderbirds. COVID-19 restrictions led to the cancellation of the previously planned Northern Thunder Air & Space Expo which was scheduled for August 1-2, 2020.

“We are extremely excited to host the Thunderbirds after over a decade,” said Col. Timothy Curry, 319th Reconnaissance Wing commander. “It is going to be an exciting day that demonstrates the unique capabilities of the U.S. Air Force to not only the local community, but inspires Airmen and families as well.”

The air and space expo will be free and open to the public. Additional information can be found on the Grand Forks AFB website at https://www.grandforks.af.mil/Northern-Thunder-2022/ and the Grand Forks AFB Facebook page.

The air show will also offer a variety of civilian and military performers, which will be announced at a later date. To view the full Thunderbirds schedule and learn more about the team, visit https://www.airforce.com/thunderbirds/overview.
