2021 tax filing season opens today

By Doug Barrett Jan 24, 2022 | 7:55 AM

Today’s (Mon) the official start of tax filing season.  A short-staffed IRS is still dealing with a nearly 2-year pandemic backlog of unprocessed returns and refunds.

There will be plenty of new issues to navigate this year. For example, individuals who are eligible to claim the child tax credit and have gotten advance payments throughout the year may get a smaller refund than they’d normally see.

The North Dakota Tax Department  processed over 480,000 North Dakota individual income tax returns in 2021.  Approximately 90 percent of these taxpayers filed electronically.

The 2021 North Dakota Legislature created a tax relief income tax credit for residents of North Dakota. Full-year residents of North Dakota will receive a credit up to $350.

The due date to file and pay 2021 individual income tax returns is Monday, April 18, 2022.
