
One person died in an early morning house fire on Saturday in north Grand Forks. Grand Forks police and fire were dispatched to 2110 10th Avenue North shortly after 2:00 a.m.
Before arriving on scene officers were informed that a caller inside the home could feel the door to their room was hot to the touch and they couldn’t get out of the house. Officers were able to visibly see fire in the residence and spotted the caller though a side window. Fire personnel entered the residence, and with officer’s assistance were able to get the caller out of the house through the window.
A second victim who was also removed from the building. Authorities say 40-year old Sarah Marie Gatica died of her injuries sustained in this incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Grand Forks Police Department and Grand Forks Fire Department.
