A few anxious moments for the Grand Forks Fire Department this morning. Crews were called to the Simplot plant on Gateway Drive around 9:00 a.m. when a valve on a large propane tank caught fire.
The 1000-gallon propane tank was on the outside of the building. Crews kept the fire from spreading while keeping the tank cool. The GFFD was also able to shut off the valve on the tank. J.R. Simplot was able to resume operations at 10:00 a.m.
The fire department responded with five fire engines, one truck, and one command vehicle with twenty personnel. No employees or fire service personnel were injured.
There was no damage to the building. The cause is under investigation.
